Introducing our Work-Able campaign!

Did you know that:

  • Under 5% of people with a learning disability are in paid work, despite 86% wanting a job (Mencap, 2025)?
  • 1 in 3 autistic adults are in paid work, and face the largest pay gap of all disability groups (National Autistic Society, 2024)?

Having a job can bring increased independence, confidence and social skills as well as an income. But of those who are working, adults with a learning disability receive on average 30% lower pay.

Work-Able, our new employment campaign, will target employers, legislators and local authorities to raise awareness of benefits of employing more people with a learning disability and autistic people. It will promote the steps they can take to make sure more people who want to work are able to do so. And make sure people with a learning disability and autistic people are treated fairly and equally once in the workforce.

Our campaign is underpinned by the new Grace Eyre Employment Strategy (running to 2029) and led by the Grace Eyre Ambassadors. Work-Able will:

  • Target employers – to raise awareness of how to support people with a learning disability and autistic people to thrive in the workplace
  • Help people develop their confidence, skills and experience through our activity programme, preparing them for future employment opportunities
  • Demand commitment from local government to increase the number of people with a learning disability and autistic people in work
  • Commit to increase the number of people with a learning disability and autistic people working for Grace Eyre to 20% of our workforce.

Equality and independence for people with a learning disability and autistic people is not a dream, it is human right.
