The Our Voices team at Grace Eyre works to ensure that both Grace Eyre and wider society is being inclusive of people with a learning disability and autistic people. 82% of our team are people with a learning disability or autistic people.
We have 3 main strands to our work in Our Voices:
The Ambassadors are a team of self-advocates who:
A team of volunteers with lived experience of learning disability and/or autism, who run accessible events in the community that are primarily for people with a learning disability and autistic adults, including regular club night Purple Clubhouse. These events support and promote disability culture across Sussex.
A team of staff members who support the work of Grace Eyre as an inclusive organisation by developing easy read materials, overseeing staff forums, hosting election hustings and other political activity, and more.
“I recently attended the Easy Read session and found it really helpful. The session was engaging and informative and I feel more confident at creating Easy Read documents now.” – staff member
As part of our accessibility strand of work, Our Voices provides training and consultancy services for charities and businesses, focusing on the inclusion of people with a learning disability and autistic people within organisations.
