On Wednesday 29 January 2025, Grace Eyre was proud to join the Aldingbourne Trust, Southdown, Mencap and other regional partners to stand up for social care.
A group travelled to County Hall in Chichester to join a presence timed to take place while West Sussex council leaders were meeting to discuss next year’s budget. People attending chanted to save social care and showed how important it is to them.
Social care spending is due to increase by 5.3%, a rise of almost £30 million, but social care providers – including Grace Eyre – say an uplift of a least 8% is needed to cover recent mandatory increases in costs.
Eva Eriksson, Grace Eyre’s Chief Executive, said:
“I’m really proud to stand with colleagues from Grace Eyre, Aldingbourne, Southdown, Mencap and other partners and people supported by them to stand up for more investment in social care. Without it, we will lose many of the lifelines social care provides, affecting millions of people.
As we know very well at Grace Eyre, through the range of support we provide for people with a learning disability, autistic people and others, social care saves lives. But it needs proper and adequate financial investment. We are urgently appealing to both local and national government to make sure the sector gets this now. ”
The event attracted attention from both the BBC and ITV. You can read more about it in this BBC article.
