Recognition is about praising people for the great things that they are doing, rather than an incentive for reaching targets.

Celebrate Greatness Award

Our recognition scheme – the Celebrate Greatness Award – is a platform to allow people to recognise others. As a manager you should be familiar with the scheme and be able to explain the purpose and processes.

You should encourage regular participation, emphasising the importance of recognising and celebrating staff who align with our values. Encourage team members and the people we support to take a few moments to submit a nomination. Bring it up in a team meeting and remind people to nominate if they tell you about something great.

As a manager, you have the opportunity to lead by example. Consider submitting your own nominations to demonstrate your support for the scheme.

Culture of recognition

Recognition doesn’t only take form via the scheme. As a manager you should be thanking employees for their good work and contributions and saying “well done” when it is merited, rather than commenting only on the negatives.

As a leader of the organisation, you can role model the behaviours which create a culture of recognition, celebrating successes.
