It’s Road Safety Week: 15-21 November 2021

Road Safety Week is the UK’s biggest road safety event when millions of people around the UK get involved to take action for safer roads.

The theme of Road Safety Week this year is Road Safety Heroes, celebrating the heroic work of road safety professionals, and explaining how we can all play a part in making journeys safer for everyone.

Our road safety heroes: meet the Grace Eyre Travel Buddy team

The Travel Buddy team: Zach, Claire and Gary

Zach, Claire and Gary are our Travel Buddy team. They work to help people develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to be able to make their regular journeys independently.

Since March 2021, they have trained 12 people to become independent travellers. They have also had 101 people attend their workshops.

The team has continued to build strong working relationships with lots of local schools and colleges, as well as parents and carers throughout Brighton & Hove.

We are also proud of our partnership with Brighton & Hove Buses. Our Drama on the Bus sessions actually helped to influence the bus company’s brand new Virtual Bus 360 app.

Thank you Travel Buddy team for all the good work you do!

Travel Buddy taster session workshops

A Travel Buddy workshop

Our Travel Buddy taster session workshops cover the basics of travel, helping participants take their first steps towards independent travel.

They cover topics like:

  • preparing for a journey
  • road safety
  • road crossings
  • staying safe on the bus

We would love to hear from your school or organisation if you feel your students or the people you support would benefit from taking part in future workshops.
