It’s National Allotments Week: 9-15 August 2021

National Allotments Week happens every year in August. The theme this year is ‘Plotting for the Future.’

During the week, we are celebrating our wonderful allotment at the Weald Allotments in Hove and sharing our future plans with you.

Our allotment is a fantastic space with huge potential to provide opportunities for the people we support. For many years before the pandemic, we ran 3 full-day gardening sessions each week supporting 15-20 people. Throughout lockdown our Friendship Group ran 25 online gardening sessions for people to participate in from their own homes and gardens.

With the world starting to open up again, we want to offer even more activities at our allotment, including regular gardening sessions and social events and gatherings. Next year we hope to be able to grow enough fruit and veg for people to take home. In the future, we could even supply fruit and veg to the Grace Eyre café which is run by people with learning disabilities and/or autism. Our allotment sessions will provide opportunities for learning, developing skills, and work experience. Eventually, the allotment will also have the potential to support formal horticultural training and qualifications.

We need your help to grow.

Can you help us raise £1,000 to buy the equipment and materials we need to get started?

Donate to the Grace Eyre allotment

With your help we can support adults with learning disabilities and/or autism to increase their ability, equality and independence, discovering the joys and benefits of gardening and connecting with the natural environment.
