Nat is keen to have more independence in various aspects of her life. In October 2018, Nat joined the Travel Buddy Project. Working on an intensive 1:1 travel training programme, Nat learnt to travel independently on the bus between her home and Grace Eyre. Since completing the training, Nat has been travelling on her own and managing to deal with the challenges this journey can bring, for example, buses being diverted, missing stops, travelling in different types of weather. This independence has also brought other opportunities like the freedom to buy a cuppa on the way to Grace Eyre.
“I feel brilliant. And Mum feels brilliant as well. She feels I am getting more confident.”
Since completing the travel training Nat has travelled approximately 120 journeys on her own. Nat gets ongoing support from the Travel Buddy Project as when she needs it.
