The location and home:
- This home is located in a very quiet neighbourhood in Salvington, with very little traffic. It is a short walk from a park, as well as a small local shopping area. It is also very close to several local bus routes, as well as having easy access to the A27.
- The home is a detached bungalow with large living room, shower room and a lovely garden.
- There is a large double bedroom for the sharer, with built in storage and a view to the garden through a big window.
- The room is furnished, including a dresser, draws, bedside table and a double bed (additional bed in photo below will be removed).
- There is a third bedroom, which will be occasionally used by the older person’s son and partner, who will provide advance notice.
The householder
- The householder is bed-bound with professional carers who come in to the home regularly throughout the day, as well as a cleaner to take care of the key areas weekly.
- They would like some company over tea and biscuits in their room regularly in the morning.
- They enjoy watching TV, though is hard of hearing so sometimes this may be heard outside of their room. Occasionally, they would also like some company when watching TV or help putting on their favourite programmes.
- Until now, the householder’s family have been staying overnight for their own peace of mind and are looking for a homesharer to take on this responsibility.
The ideal homesharer:
- The ideal homesharer would be someone who wants to sleep at home most nights throughout the week, including weekends. They do not need to be home all evening, but the main reason for Homeshare being offered is to know that someone is in the home overnight.
- The homesharer should also be the sort of person that would say when popping out or have come home, and would check in on the householder in their room when doing so.
- They should be comfortable with frequent visitors, both professional and social, coming to the home throughout the week.
- Someone with experience of supporting older people would be beneficial, being comfortable with the palliative care that is occurring within the home and spending time with a person in this stage of life.
- This would not suit a homesharer who wants to go away regularly, though the family would support holidays or nights away with notice so that they can plan to be there instead.
