We are proud to be a part of Brighton & Hove Pride!

Our vision is a society where everyone with a learning disability and all autistic people – including those from our LGBTQ+ community – can fulfil their dreams and wishes, are respected as equal citizens, and are part of, and contribute to their communities.

Our participation in Brighton Pride reflects our Charter point that says we want the people we support to be able to have strong, supported and happy relationships of their choosing.

Our vision and work relates to Pride through:

  • Understanding intersectionality
  • Pronouns and language
  • Equity for all

There is more information on all of these points below.

People holding Grace Eyre and Amaze flags and someone with an Amaze t-shirt onIn the 2025 Brighton Pride Community Parade, we marched alongside other partner organisations – Amaze, Brighton & Hove Speak Out and Team Domenica.

We walked together and united, to increase the visibility of individuals with a learning disability and/or autistic people, and celebrate the intersectional identities of queer, disabled people. At a time when both LGBTQ+ and disability communities are still fighting to be seen, heard and accepted, we joined together to tell the world that we are: “Still fighting to be me”!

Understanding intersectionality

Someone can find and belong to many different groups. Many people with a learning disability and/or autistic people also identify as LGBTQ+.

This understanding of intersectionality is reflected in Grace Eyre staff training delivered by Diversity and Ability.

Pronouns and language

As an organisation, our understanding and awareness of terminology, gender and pronouns has grown to reflect developing understanding within wider society.

We look forward to doing more to increase this both for the people we support and for our staff and volunteer team.

Equity for all

Many marginalised communities struggle to be recognised as equal citizens, so Pride gives an opportunity to show mutual support.

We are proud to promote the following within our communities:

  • tolerance (respecting one another)
  • equity (equal opportunity)
  • diversity (difference)
  • inclusion (belonging)
  • education (opportunity to learn)

To be able to contribute and belong to a community is an amazing experience. As an employer and a service provider, we support everyone to be proud to be themselves and help people feel secure enough to dare to be different.

Our organisational values of being welcoming, joyful and celebratory support this.
