Last Friday our Travel Buddy Project in association with Brighton & Hove Bus and Coach Company launched it’s all new Drama on the Bus programme where adults with learning disabilities learn about communicating with drivers and passengers and what to do in challenging situations. The interactive sessions explore worries and ease the concerns of those travelling on the bus.
The attendees were given the opportunity to meet the bus driver, learn about their role and what to do in the case of emergency; they broke into groups, looked at different scenarios and then came together again to compare notes.
Shannon, although already quite an independent traveller, learnt about keeping herself safe on the journey when travelling at different times of the day and Jill, another attendee, said, ‘I spoke to the bus driver, which I really enjoyed. It was helpful practising with my bus pass and I thought it was interesting.’
Shaun, Travel Buddy’s Senior Project Worker said, ‘I’m always impressed by the bus drivers – they show real commitment when working with the people who use our services. The attendees really benefited from the session and came knowing what and what not to do in certain situations.’
If you know someone who might benefit from attending this course, please get in touch with the Travel Buddy Team.
