Bradley is Reach Assistant at The Reach.
Grace Eyre wanted to employ someone with lived experience of a learning disability to support the running of the venue, including organising and supporting activities in the community.
Bradley had completed his employment programme with our friends at Team Domenica which included work experience at two local nurseries and a café, when his job coach suggested he apply for the Reach assistant role.
Having been successful at the interview, Bradley has not looked back. He is instrumental in creating a welcoming environment for the people who receive support at The Reach and listens and responds to people’s views and opinions.
Among other activities, Bradley supports the Grace Eyre’s Charter by taking a group to the local café where they can eat a healthy lunch and be part of the local community.
Bradley said:
“The job is fun. It’s hard to get a job when you have a learning disability, so it feels great to be accepted. The staff are nice and supportive, and I have ongoing training.”
When asked what advice he would give to others applying for a job, Bradley said “just be yourself”.
Dominique, a fellow staff member at The Reach, said:
“Bradley is great. He’s fitted into the team really well.”
Ben, Service Manager at The Reach, added:
“Bradley is doing a great job. He’s very helpful. He’s been assisting us with our health and safety checks, completing notes on our weekly planner, and with his strong IT skills has been feeding back on our new back-office system. He’s also been helping one of our members with her physio exercises. Interaction is an important part of the role.”
Outside of work, Bradley loves cycling and plays football. He also has more ideas and suggestions for different activities for the people Grace Eyre supports at The Reach.
