Staff from Grace Eyre were excited to attend the launch at the newly refurbished Travel Shop on North Street last week.

This new Brighton & Hove Buses community space features a wooden model bus specially designed as a travel confidence building tool, along with a brand new animated map of Brighton & Hove designed by local artists Helen Cann and Thomas Buckley.

The model bus will be used in partnership with local community groups, including Grace Eyre, to develop and build initial travel confidence within areas of the local community. The bus was created by Brighton based charity, the Wood Store, wood recycling project, using reclaimed wood.

Ed Wills, Managing Director at Brighton & Hove Buses, said:

Our work with the community is vital, and it’s hugely exciting to be creating more spaces where that work can continue.”

Claire Hudson, Travel Training Lead at Grace Eyre, who presented at last week’s launch, said:

“Grace Eyre and Travel Buddy are very excited to be able to use this new space to help teach members of the community with additional needs, a learning disability and/or autistic people to travel confidently and safely within their communities, improving their life experience and independence. We’re especially happy to do so as a continuation of the long-standing, strong relationship we have with Brighton & Hove Buses.”

The Grace Eyre Travel Buddy team enable safe, independent travel through 12-week Travel Training sessions; one-to-one bespoke Travel Training over a period of weeks; and tailored group workshops. By strengthening independence and the ability to take and manage educated risks, Travel Buddy has a huge positive impact on trainees’ lives, expanding life opportunities, including for study and employment.

One of Travel Buddy’s successful former trainees, Anya, was also at the launch to see the new facility and celebrate its launch – read more about Anya’s story.
