Grace Eyre is proud to be a part of Brighton Pride 2023
Our vision is a society where all people with learning disabilities and autism – including those from our LGBTQ+ community – can fulfil their dreams and wishes, are respected as equal citizens, and are part of, and contribute to their communities.
Our vision relates to Pride through:
- Understanding intersectionality
- Pronouns and language
- Equality for all
Understanding intersectionality
Someone can find and belong to many different groups. Many people with a learning disability and/or autistic people also identify as LGBTQ+.
This understanding of intersectionality is reflected in Grace Eyre staff training delivered by Diversity and Ability and sessions provided by All Sorts have helped inform Grace Eyre’s upcoming Inclusion Strategy.
Pronouns and language
As an organisation, our understanding and awareness of terminology, gender and pronouns has grown.
We look forward to doing more to increase this both for the people we support and for our staff and volunteer team.
Equality for all
Many marginalised communities struggle to be recognised as equal citizens, so Pride gives an opportunity to show mutual support.
We are proud to promote tolerance, diversity, inclusion and education within our communities.
To be able to contribute and belong to a community is an amazing experience. At Grace Eyre, as an employer and a service provider, we support everyone to be proud to be themselves and help people feel secure enough to dare to be different.
Our organisational values of being welcoming, joyful and celebratory support this.
We are delighted to be part of Pride this year and look forward to taking part in the parade with our friends from Unity, Heartventure, Speak Out and Stay Up Late.
Pride Community Parade
Our wonderful yellow open top double decker bus kindly loaned to us by Dave and Frankie at Brighton Bus Preservation Society will be waved off from Hove Lawns at the start of the parade, around 11:00 am on Saturday 5th August.
Please come along anywhere on the parade route to show your support!
