Six people from our Active Lives service recently took part in a 5 week project with students on the MA Inclusive Arts Practice course at the University of Brighton.

First, the group visited the Lloyd Corporation Exhibition at the university’s CCA Gallery.

The Lloyd Corporation Exhibition explores the journeys objects take before and after we buy them. It also looks at how things that we might throw away could be used to make art or for other purposes.

After the group visited the exhibition together, they shared ideas about what they saw and then made artwork about it.

The group decided to make boxes because they can contain, store and transport objects and materials, just like the shipping containers in the gallery. The boxes were much smaller than the shipping containers!

As the group continued to work on the boxes, the look and feel of the boxes changed. The boxes took on different surfaces, forms, contents and materials.

The artwork is now on display in the Angel Cake Cafe at Grace Eyre, 36 Montefiore Road, Hove.

We’re always keen to work collaboratively with local artists so please get in touch if you’re interested.
