Thanks to a generous Amex grant, we present our innovative new volunteering project, Pilotlight.
In a nutshell, this project aims to match eight people that we support at our centre with eight volunteer mentors from the local community.
With staff support, a person with learning disabilities will identify a personal project to work on that moves them closer to their goals. For example, ‘Clare is interested in making a short film about herself, the things she’s interested in and her dreams for the future’.
Each person will be matched with a volunteer and, based at our centre close to staff support and expertise, they will work together over 12 weeks to complete the project.
Each pair will produce an audio/visual diary of their time together, that will be shared via social media and other channels. This will celebrate achievement but it will also be used to illustrate the huge benefits of being active in one’s community, building strong relationships, and trying new things.
So folks, if you work closely with someone who may be interested, we’d really like to hear from you. Please contact Kt Banwell, Volunteer Manager at volunteer@grace-eyre.org or on 07436 093 170
