People with learning disabilities who use our services tell us:
‘We want to have strong and supported relationships’, and ‘We want to be part of our communities’.
So on Saturday 5th August, Grace Eyre is taking part in the Brighton Pride Community Parade for the first time, along with HeartVenture, our fellow charity for people with learning disabilities in the city. We hope our participation will start conversations about relationships and inclusivity.
Both HeartVenture and Grace Eyre deliver events that help people with learning disabilities to socialise, have fun and relax, and meet new people for friendship and relationships. Taking part together gives us an opportunity to work in partnership and draw attention to the importance of relationships to people with learning disabilities.
As an employer and as a service provider, Grace Eyre wants to celebrate Pride. As the organisers describe, this year’s Festival is:
‘A much needed oasis of joy in challenging times, we will come together to show the world that we celebrate and embrace Diversity in our great City’.
David, a member of staff who has learning disabilities, told us:
‘I’m looking forward to being involved! It’s a great opportunity to be able to take part, supporting Grace Eyre and HeartVenture. I value this network’.
We will be travelling on a vintage open top bus during the parade and we will have music playing. HeartVenture is run by the Wakeford family, and Daniel Wakeford will be on the bus. Daniel appeared in Channel 4’s reality documentary The Undateables and has his own music career!
