About the opportunities

Our Voices supports people with learning disabilities to have a say in the management of Grace Eyre as an organisation. The Purple Club House is a monthly club night put on by Our Voices as a way of getting feedback from people with learning disabilities about Grace Eyre. Things like – what it does, what it should do, how it can improve, how it can support people to live the lives they want, etc. It is a social night with DJs, film, live music, quizzes and chatting. Up to 80 people can attend.

Practical considerations

The Club happens monthly on a Friday evening. The team briefing is at 6:00 pm and the event ends at 9:30 pm. Clear up is usually over by 10:00 pm. A volunteer could commit to doing every club, or just a few clubs a year. We can work with any kind of commitment. Reasonable travel expenses will be paid.

The Purple Club House takes place at the Purple Playhouse Theatre in our main centre in Montefiore Road, near BHASVIC Sixth Form College, in a converted church. The centre is also easily accessed by the No. 7 bus route that stops at the opposite end of Montefiore Road and is a 5 minute walk away.

How you will be supported

You will be given an induction and training on all aspects of this role. All volunteers will be offered time where they can meet with the Volunteer Manager and talk about how their volunteering is going. It's a chance to talk about how things are going, how you are feeling about your volunteering and to identify and evaluate your support needs. You can also tell us if you need more support. Volunteers are offered regular supervision which is an informal, friendly space to discuss your work.
