Last Thursday 20th April, our Brighton & Hove Special Olympics Boccia Team won Gold at the Sussex Boccia regional event! Susan Street, Sue Attwood and Toby Watkins played brilliantly together losing only one match in the whole competition before they were presented with their medals and certificates.
In the afternoon, Susan Street then went on to win silver, and Sue Attwood the bronze, in the singles event. It was a great performance all round and the team have now qualified for the National Games due to take place in Sheffield this summer.
Sue A said she was ‘excited’, ‘looking forward to Sheffield’ and will be ‘practising every Tuesday’ in the run up to the Games.
Toby went on to say, ‘I’m excited by our win, we met some interesting people at the tournament. I’m looking forward to competing (in Sheffield) – it’ll be my third time taking part in the Special Olympics but my first time as part of the Boccia team!’
Go team Boccia!
