About the event

Join over 4,000 fellow cyclists for a challenge and a day you’ll never forget with the added bonus of raising money and awareness for a great cause.

Every pound you raise will go towards Grace Eyre’s Big Build project. The Big Build will see the transformation of our headquarters on Montefiore Road into a vibrant and inclusive community facility, offering an array of creative and performing arts opportunities, and enhanced employment and training programmes. The Big Build will also include the development of supported living accommodation for people to live independently in the safety and security of their own home.

In 2022, 7 superheroes took on the challenge, raising thousands of pounds for Grace Eyre. This year, it’s going to be bigger and better than ever. We have secured 15 charity places and one of them could be yours.

What people are saying

“I really liked the joy of thousands of cyclists taking over the roads for a day. There is kind of bond engendered with the other riders. It was great to be welcomed by the Grace Eyre staff and supporters at the end and there is a buzz from that sense of achievement.”

Peter Dupont, Rider 2022

“It was brilliant to do the official London to Brighton again with Grace Eyre. A great goal to train for particularly getting up the infamous Ditchling Beacon. And so rewarding arriving on Brighton beach with the cheering and support from Grace Eyre.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the route?

The ride starts at Clapham Common in London. Once we are out of London we predominantly cycle along quiet country lanes passing through Mitcham, Carshalton, Chipstead, Banstead and Haywards Heath before taking on the challenge that is Ditchling Beacon – a thigh-busting climb to the top of the South Downs where you will be rewarded with amazing views and a water break. There’s also usually an ice cream van! From here it’s all downhill into Brighton finishing on Madeira Drive where you will be greeted by a team of supporters cheering you across the finish line and celebrating your incredible achievement.

Do I have to raise a minimum amount?

We suggest a minimum £150 sponsorship target per rider. If you raise more than £200, you will receive a branded cycling jersey to wear on the day. If you raise more than £300, you will receive a personalised cycling jersey to wear on the day.

100% of the money raised will go directly towards Grace Eyre’s Big Build.

Our dedicated Fundraising Team will be on hand to support your fundraising efforts throughout.

How fit do I need to be?

The London to Brighton cycle ride is challenging but achievable. In order to maximise your enjoyment you do need to train and get out on your bike before the ride!

Is there an age restriction?

You will need to be 16 or over but there is no upper age limit. However all participants of whatever age should ensure they are fit enough to take part in the event. If you are in any doubt please check with your doctor.

What kit do I need to bring?

We recommend you have a well-serviced bike – it doesn’t need to be carbon–framed or anything special but it should be comfortable and well maintained.

As well as your bike it is essential you have a helmet.

It’s up to you whether you carry a bag with you but we recommend this is fixed to your bike (search for ‘bike panniers’ online) rather than worn on your back which can become very tiring.

How will I know where I am going?

The route is fully sign-posted so you can keep your eyes on the road and enjoy the wonderful surrounding countryside!

What if there is a problem with my bike during the ride?

Highly experienced mechanics will be based at all rest stops along the route. You’ll also be given the phone number of mobile mechanics should you need them.

Will I get any information in advance?

Yes.

Once registered, you will get access to a participant page where you will have all that you need, including:

  • Welcome Pack
  • Training plans and tips
  • Transport instructions and guidance
  • Bike travel information
  • Joining instructions and directions
  • Facebook event page

Are refreshments included on the day?

Yes.

Refreshment stops offering free water  will be located at mile 17, mile 30 and at the top of Ditchling Beacon at mile 45.

On arrival into Brighton you will also be given a packed lunch.

We will also have celebratory refreshments at our designated area in charity village.

Can I meet and network with other cyclists taking part?

Yes.

Once you have registered your place you will get access to the official London to Brighton Cycle Facebook group.

It is the place to go if you want to meet other cyclists taking part, find a cycling buddy or training partners in your area or get advice on kit and training from other riders.

Subject to your consent, we will also set up a WhatsApp group so you can chat and meet to all #TeamGraceEyre riders before and on the day.

How do I set up a fundraising page?

Setting up a fundraising page is a great way to collect donations from your supporters. It’s an opportunity for you to tell people about what you’re doing, why you’re doing it, and the huge difference it will make.

The Grace Eyre Foundation are registered with JustGiving and GoFundMe, so you can set up a fundraising page with either of these platforms and the money raised, including any Gift Aid, will come straight to us.

Setting up a fundraising page is relatively straightforward, but if you need help we’ve created these step-by-step instructions to guide you through the process.

Once set up, all you need to do is share the link with your friends, family and colleagues so they can make their donations and send you messages of encouragement to spur you on.
