It’s Learning Disability Week: 17th – 23rd June 2024
Learning Disability Week happens every year. It is all about making sure that everyone hears what life is like for people who have a learning disability.
The aim of Learning Disability Week is to:
- raise awareness of learning disabilities
- make sure people are respected as equal citizens and
- are part of and contribute to their communities.
The theme for this year’s Learning Disability Week is “Do you see me?”
At Grace Eyre we see you, we hear you, we value you.
We see you: Pioneer Arts
Pioneer Arts is our online art gallery. It is the result of our long-standing involvement with and commitment to the creative arts at Grace Eyre.
We have proudly showcased artists with lived experience of a learning disability and/or autistic artists during Artists Open Houses for over 15 years. We are excited that, through the Pioneer Arts gallery, this amazing artwork can be seen by even more people.
Here’s Mario talking about a piece of his artwork that was exhibited at this year’s Artist Open Houses.
We hear you: Our Charter
Grace Eyre’s mission is to deliver Our Charter created by people with a learning disability and autistic people.
Our Charter is about living our lives in the way we want to, getting good support from kind and friendly people.
We value you: Celebrating Learning
Students from our Employability and Skills courses recently marked their brilliant achievements – alongside friends and family – at a celebration event at Exeter Street Hall.
Through our ‘Employability and Skills’ and ‘Money and Numbers’ courses students gained skills and increased confidence to feel more ready for work and other life experiences.
Together let’s challenge the barriers faced by people with a learning disability and celebrate the things people with a learning disability bring to our communities.
