Volunteering at Grace Eyre

Putting something back into your community

Volunteering helps individuals make a contribution to their communities and get something back in the process. Grace Eyre values the contribution of volunteers very much. The hours donated to our organisation means that Grace Eyre is able to provide a range of additional services that are welcomed by our service users. This support has a special quality and reinforces the core values of our service provision.

Training
Grace Eyre recognises the added value that volunteers bring to services and therefore provide support, training and opportunities for our voluntary staff members.
We are committed to offering volunteers places on our internal staff training programme and also on the training provided by external providers.

Pat’s story
“I have volunteered at the Avondale Centre for 14 years, I had a friend who worked as a sessional worker here so came along and have been here ever since. There is a real community feel, its very special, I feel supported and I like meeting new people. I feel it makes a lovely difference to my life. I have learned a lot about the activities I have been involved in, there are some tremendous artists here – I’ve learned a lot about textiles and other crafts but not only this I’ve really learned how to support people to learn and develop. I love chatting to people about what we do here letting people outside know all the good things that go on and I really feel like I’ve made a difference to the service users lives.”

Toby’s story
“I’ve worked at First Base in the kitchens providing meals for the homeless. I have had experience of being homeless myself and being on the receiving end of services. I like working for Grace Eyre, I am learning how to support people, how to help people solve problems that they may have. I feel part of the team, I get involved in art groups – supporting people to express themselves. I even model myself for the life drawing myself sometimes! (with my clothes on of course!!)  Its good joining in and and having fun. I am also getting involved in a project to help people travel independently around Brighton.  I am positive about working here – I put a lot of energy into it but get a lot of satisfaction back. “
