Shared Lives is all about people supporting people to live their lives within their communities. It is about people living in family style homes offering and providing care and support to people who have particular needs. The Shared Lives Carers and the individuals with whom they support share their lives and do things together as part of ordinary family lives. The needs of the individuals mean that they require support with different areas of their lives to enable them to live as independently as they possible can.
Shared Lives Carers offer a number of different services including day service provision, short term accommodation often known as ‘respite’, long term accommodation, outreach support or ‘kinship’ support (this is where the carer acts as an extended family member and provides support to an individual/s within their own home).
