Art & Crafts

Grace Eyre has a strong track record in the provision of arts and crafts activities and we support individuals who are complete beginners as well as accomplished and established artists.

Puppetry

The current production is a shadow puppetry play about an exciting story called ‘The Joining of Two Worlds’. This story explores the tension between the world of a young girl and an old man living in a wood. Their worlds are divided by an ancient tre which neither of them dare pass until the story unwinds. The story is an expression of fear and darkness versus growth and colour. The puppeteers have made their puppets come to life with the illumination of a screen of white material stretched across a wooden frame.

The production will form part of our winter celebrations, check the website for details.

“I designed and made the girl puppet, I think she is good.” – Eric

“I like drawing the ideas for the puppets. And I am going to sing an amazing song for this production.” – Katie

“I really enjoy experimenting with the shadows.” – Annie

I love being part of the play and working with the puppets, they come to life!!” - Betty

Photography:

During photography sessions, we visit a number of different locations Tilgate Park in Crawley, Rottingdean Pond, Shoreham Airport and Brighton Beach to name but a few and take photos of all sorts of things.

All photography takes place on outings and photography themes have included: shadows, animals, flowers, plants and people. A lot of the work is displayed at the May Festival and throughout the year in the Angel Cake Café, where members of the public can view and purchase it.

Open House

Each year the Grace Eyre artists are involved in running and exhibiting a range of contemporary paintings, sculpture photography, ceramics, video, mosaics and needlework as part of the Brighton Festival. In May 2009 it once again proved to be successful with many members of the public visiting, viewing and purchasing our artists work.
